Bristol Unit vs Cardiff Dragons

Dragons Squad

After their fantastic performance against Cardiff City, and with the potentially title deciding game against Bristol City looming, Dragons might have been tempted to lose focus against the Badgers of Bristol Uni. However, having lost three key players in Remco, Kat and captain Sian, and having only drawn against the students last time round; there was little room for complacency.

In the last match, the Badgers main threat had come from player-coach Kevin and Ruth, and they again posed the major danger early on. First Kevin was given too much space by the sideline and he nailed the shot. Chris produced a long range equaliser for Dragons, before Ruth stuck for Uni, winning two penalties, the latter which was converted, before sinking a loose ball. When Kevin added a simple finish after the switch was drawn, Bristol led 4-1. Despite this, Dragons didn’t let their heads drop, and Chris scored from short range. With their defence now looking more solid, the attackers was being given more chance to work out their attacks. Taking advantage of being tightly marked, Donna made two excellently angled runs, and both time Josh managed to find her with side feeds. Her finishing was impeccable, and the scores were level. Very rapidly Chris completed a first half hat-trick with another long shot, before Joey opened his account from close range. Josh added a long shot, and Dragons had hit 6 goals without reply. The Badgers weren’t finished though and a great shot from near half way by Ruth on the half-time whistle made it 7-5 at the break.

Ian came on to replace Rob for a second-half that was to prove much less eventful. Chris’s long shot and Joey’s runner opened up a clear lead, and after that both sides struggled to find the basket for the rest of the game. Ian’s run did draw a penalty which Josh managed to roll around the back rim before it dropped, then Ruth’s penalty at the opposite end made it 10-6. Joey’s long shot at the end gave the Dragons a 5 goal margin which slightly flattered them, although comfortable for most of the second half, they’d been pushed all the way in the first game.

I hope the Bristol City spying mission enjoyed the game, as they won’t learn anything from it, given that we’ll be playing a team of Dutch ringers against them!

Cheers to Ian for reffing, and to the drivers.
